Funny you should mention that. We had a discussion over the weekend and we decided that we were going to start contacting the owners of all the little strips around us. Ask for permission to land there in order to get accurate co-ordinates of their fields on our GPS's, as well as look at the condition and obstacles that you need to be aware of.Tumbleweed wrote:Maybe update GPS data of all strips- even unregistered farm strips. Nice to press' Go to' to see your options before you go ploughing with an outlanding.

I'm not asking if I can land if I think I have to.
The point is not to ask if I can land there in a emergency. In an emergency I will land where ever suitable, no question asked. The point I am making is that it there are many strips in the area that we fly. It will be nice to have an idea of what to expect when having to land there in an emergency. Depending on the emergency, this knowlegde could make me use "Go To" to a different field! One less thing to be concerned about. Example: Two of the strips are very close to each other, one has a visible short runway, the other has obstacles on both approaches. Landing there will help assess which one will be the prefered one.Tumbleweed wrote:No need to. If it looks like you can land there, when flying over, press 'Enter' to save as 'strip.'
