Hi.
Apparently the sign language I was getting from other pilots in the circuit was not due to them practising but due to them not being able to hear me. So I sent my trusty little vertex to Comet the other day as it had become a bit untrusty. I was told that I will have my radio back within 3 to 5 working days so i can go and brave the fierce south easter and other planes may actually hear me swearing/crying/screaming while trying not to crinkle myself at morning star.
Alas, this was not to be. My radio was sent and promptly received by them.(I phoned to check and see if I needed to start making plans for an insurance claim due to our fantastic affirmative shopping postal people) Again it was confirmed three days at the most. After three days I phoned and the run around started, personnell were not at work but they promise they will get back to you, "What, no one has gotten back to you", We are moving and have not had time to check your radio. So why did you say 3 to 5 days.
Eventually on a friday afternoon, the weather looking beautifull, like it does once in three months in the cape, and they say the radio has been checked and repaired and they will send it back the moment i make payment. Thanks guys, I have been shopping with you for a while and love it when you treat me like a criminal that will not pay the bill. So I make the payment (Approx. R300.00) and inform them of that and ask to please courier it immediately as the week looked good for flying. Yeah right, how could I expect them to do that. And so another week went by while they frantically tried to figure out how to courier a radio.
When I eventually received it I noticed a different battery on the radio and phoned them back. "We accidently dropped the radio and the battery pack cracked so we replaced it with a brand new battery, just for you!" I dont think so, after the normal 8 hour charge the battery lasted a full two hours, that was without transmitting and just being on standby. You see, I could not transmit because noboby could hear me, still!!!
So i paid for the repair, was treated like a criminal, suffered weeks of non flying and guess what, the radios casing is cracked as well. Thanks Comet, guess you lost one teency weency client that wont really make a dent in your income. Am I just being a sissy or is this how it is supposed to work?
Now that I bored all of you to sleep, does anybody know of a reputable radio repair business or person who can assist in the repair of my radio. It seems the gain on the built in imicrophone and/or headset microphone is set too low. I cannot find circuit diagrams or any info on how to set it via the keypad, if that is possible, or how to adjust it on the pc board.

Poor Service Again!
If there is grass between your toes , you're flying to low.....
If ever in doubt about flying - drink a beer.
That will give you at least 8 hours to think about it some more.

Yes,
good response, I bought my VXA300, and a couple of other radio items from them,,, dont know about repairs, but I can vote for good after-service.
