RED Bull Air Race VS Formula 1

Postby Dish » Tue Aug 25, 2009 9:07 am

No unfortunately its not an event, but there i was last night watching the RED Bull air race and hells teeth those lads can fly. Saw them entering the gate on the first lap at over 350 kms per hour. Two minutes of pandemonium and the okes finished. In my humble opinion the RBAR is a hell of a lot tougher than formula one racing. What do you think >?? (^^) (^^) (^^)

Hi ya Dish.

I agree 100%. There is no chance of error there and I allso recon more skill required to pull those knife edges so low to the water/ground.

More to control than driving a car - 2 Axis compared to 3. Wondered if there has been any crashes in the races?

Cheers

i would be very interested to see some of the footage of the practice rounds etc. at the end of the programme during the credits they show some "bloopers" of pilots hitting the gates (which essentially just disintegrate) without damage to plane or pilot, but it happens in the blink of an eye. I would be very very keen to see the practice sessions. The other thing is that if the pilot is supposed to pass through a gate with level wings or on a knife edge etc and he slightly (10 degrees) off he incurs a two second penalty - Jeepers thats harsh so there is NO room for error. Very very lekker to watch.

Also (and correct me if im wrong) - i heard they had scheduled a round for South Africa, overhead Harties but that red bull said that they had to come up with massive guarantees and they organisers also didnt believe that there was enough space for the crowd?? Not sure if thats true but its what i heard..

I love watching it but just about always miss it. It's not advertised well as far as tv schedule times on dstv.
Nuts about Cheetahs. Petit is the place.

Rumour has it that in order to make it more spectator friendly they will be using the Bantam for all forthcoming events.
I shudder to think of the G forces these pilots are now going to be subjected to in the Bantam.

(^^) (^^)

Dish I hear that they have called you up as well.

Yes - indeed that is true. In fact Glenn Dell called me last night wanted to know if i could spend some time with him and perhaps share some tips around how to get him a little faster. Told him to turf the extra300 and for proper speed seat himself in a Bantam. He sighed and said that he wasnt sure, and that even with his 30,000 hours he would still be a little nervous because of the Bantams extraordinary capabilities. ** ** ** ** ($$) ($$) ($$) -

Would have made it interesting haveing a bantam race against him -

I don't think the 2 are really comparible in that one is done very quickly, could they sustain that pressure for 90minutes non stop?

I have never seen a pensioner winning a formula one race??

They are both the same - no overtaking in either.
