****Pricing discussion - Touchy subject****
Re: Raped again
Mr Niren, sir........... again, with the utmost respect to you, your company and agency, I don't see you defending the allegations of high prices and ripped offs, should we thus 'jump to our own conclusions'?

Sorry, this is inexcusable - who puts a website live with incorrect prices, where is the proof reading? What other "minor oversights" are overlooked?Aviation Engines wrote:The prices on the website are incorrect and this is being attended to this morning

Re: Raped again
Hi Guys, don't over react now, but the prices has been like that a few months now. It occured at the start of the credit crunch when they changed most of the prices to POA to cover them selves against sudden price hikes. To be sure, rather phone them and ask for a price. That way they can hear the disbelieve over the high prices.Sox wrote:Sorry, this is inexcusable - who puts a website live with incorrect prices, where is the proof reading? Re: Raped again
Well it seems not be Rotax parts only. Headset adaptor that takes a Single helicopter plug to 2 GA plug - R495 - anywhere else in the world $32 - which makes it around R260. 52% markup. Sigh... I give up.
Nuts about Cheetahs. Petit is the place.
Re: Raped again
Guys, I really wish you would rather stop this bashing. Remember that a LOT of you guys learned to fly, and soloed behind ( Or in front of
) a Rotax engine. Aviation Engines is an old and well established bussines. I have been dealing with these guys for a long time, and I have allways been treated well. It is NOT their fault that Rotax have become so expensive. Stop this nonsense NOW. Moderators do your job please.

Re: Raped again
Go have a look at Aircraft Spruce and other international sites and look at their prices(http://www.aircraftspruce.com/). The landed cost is approximately 12 times the dollar value. This covers the dollar buying price, shipping, duties, customs clearing fees etc. I believe you are allowed to bring in up to $2000 per year with a maximum of 3 orders, for personal use only and not pay any import duties additional to those already mentioned. Then add 14% VAT and compare prices
Look here are the 582 pricing. A whole engine will obviously be subject to import duties.

If you are prepared to sit with the hassle, then by all means, there is nothing stopping you importing your stuff directly. You might have a problem getting warranty support from the local distributor, but that hasn't stopped me before.

$32.00 + shipping(approx $20.00) + 14% VAT in South Africa = about R495.00
Airspeed, altitude, or brains....you always need at least two
Re: Raped again
This is how I see it.
Rotax engines come from a 1st world country and standardize their 1st world prices world wide.
We in SA do not normally earn 1st world salaries.
Prices seem very high to us, even more so when you add transport costs etc.
The product and service is very good IMHO.
But it is very expensive and will only remain a viable option until something else comes along.

Re: Raped again
I have absolutely nothing against Rotax engines - I have a probelm with the pricing - be it from the manufaturer or the agent I don't care. So does a lot of other people because there are other engines used and investigated.
I also don't understand why we must pay more than anybody else for things realted to aviation and be happy with that. All dealers get discount for items they buy from most suppliers - if you don't I suggest they start buying from another source. Most of those same items does not attract import tax - why then should we pay on average double to what it cost in the US or other markets - that is what is peeing me off. I understand they have a business to run but I feel they are pricing things unfairly. But unlike the rotax spares these items I don't have to buy from comet and I came right for R300 somewhere else. As for the rotax parts - we don't have a choice and there I grudgingly buy it there.
Just an example - I ordered bolts from PLACO for my little airplane. They didn't have in stock. He ordered the stuf right there in fornt of me from Aircraft spruce. When they arrived(in 4 days) and they cost me less than what the price was on the aircraft spruce website ??

Re: Raped again
Steven,
there is nothing stopping you from buying direct overseas. I have bought a lot from Aircraft Spruce and found with all the hassle is is easier to go local, at a premium of course, but that's business. Buy your rotax spares from http://www.leadingedge-airfoils.com/services.htm
Why don't you start your own import business and compete with them. You have a sum total of about 7000 customers to share between you.

I have been flying microlights for over 20 years, and obviously have had many dealings with Aviation Engines in that time.
I have seldom dealt with a business that has ALWAYS given me such outstanding support and service, and hope that my
business can do the same to our customers.
I realise that they need to make a profit to cover their extensive costs of stock, overheads, skilled staff etc etc.
I have on many occassions phoned niren at odd times and odd hours for help when i have been on a flying trip
and when i have had engine problems - for engines they never ever supplied.
I had a semi siezure on a 912 S two years ago and took the engine for a check up...Aviation engines, without me making
any such request, checked it out, saw it was a warranty claim, submitted the claim, and supplied a brand new engine
from their own stock, at once.
I have never bought an engine, or any major item from them, and have no interest, commercial or otherwise, in them.
Without them, we would all be in a bad, sad postition.
If you dont like Aviation Engines, their prices (remember they are not a charity) or service - its a free world, go elsewhere.
Dont run to them when you have problem, and dont knock them here....
Thats my opinion....
barry
I have had similar experience with Nirren & Co, but on much smaller scale. Their knowledge and enthusiasm is great. Nice guys and unfortunately the R:Euro is beyond their control. Compare their prices to other aviation types locally (not in USA).... While I have a problem with Rotax pricing it is similar world wide and not any doing of the local agents....

I have bought plenty "little" thinks (fuel strainers, cheapie headsets, maps, fuel guage etc) from the new store at Rand. Pitty rand is chasing me away..... I like having somehwere to go who has stock that I can just pickup on my way past. Holding that stock costs bucks and they need to make a living.... I will continue to support them...

I don't really agree on locking the topic... this is a free speech forum.
Sorry for feeling to override you Tailspin, I have also had excellent service from Niren and crew and people need to vent. I do not see this topic as a flame or slanderous.
We all suffer from the R/$ - Niren - in defence a post from you can help here.
We are all being robbed - let the debate continue, I feel Comet deserves a chance to respond to this as well
