First post ever, please pardon my ignorance if this is a stupid question
Is one allowed to change the registration of a microlight, say ZU-XYZ to ZU-ABC, or is it cast in stone for eternity or until that craft is decommissioned?
Demon did'nt make a change, he requested a specific reg on first registration of a new aircraft. I reckon, its probably a lot easier doing it that way. Why dont you buy a new plane and do the same?
Not sure about changing an existing, but someone did tell me not so long ago, that if you apply for a special reg, in that specific case, the chosen reg must remain with the aerie 'forever'
But as with all human nature, we tend to find ways around systems. For instance could they prevent you from deregistering an aircraft, in which case that reg now becomes available again.
CAA allocate a reg to aircraft on sequential basis (I think?). All you do is reserve a reg and change it. Costs in region of R2K+ VAT. Don't know about reg staying with aircraft for ever? (Would assume if you pay the bucks you can change as often as you like)
CAA registrations are most helpful. Give them a call and discuss the issue. Also AVDEX (free registration) www.avdex.co.za will help with search for your new reg...

Why not rereg ZU-FLY to new owners initials (or some other obscure reg) as package deal, then reserve ZU-FLY for your new baby and keep the reg... Will cost R4K though
PS Wish the new prospective owner the very best. Pity timing was bad. Couple weeks earlier and she would have been mine.

As i have said before, bugger changing the a/c reg, just go to home affairs, bribe someone, and change your name to match the a/c. will certainly be cheaper that 2K
