A good starter....

Postby Hermanator » Wed Jul 15, 2009 5:30 pm

Looking at the ads running for the (slobber) gorgeous 582's for sale, as a newcomer who intends to start lessons soon, would the 582 be considered a good starter aircraft.

I guess the more informed and experienced would suggest it's possibly easy to fly and quite forgiving, but take yourself back to those first days. You sat there, palms sweating profusely as you gingerly taxied off for your first solo. If you were flying one of these, would life have been good as your break into microlighting?

Thanks, as a total newby who understands the front and rear, all comments appreciated.

Cheers

Hermanator - the 582 is a specific engine made by rotax and it develops 65 hp. There are then several makes of different trike and other airplanes that are powered by the 582 engine. They are good engines and yes it makes a good engine for most trikes and yes fine as an engine when you start flying. The different trikes then are quite a discussion point but let me just say that most are fine and I don't actually think there are many bad trikes out there. When you start maybe avoide the ones which are quite fast with a smallish wing. Go for the slow stuff with a big wing.
Nuts about Cheetahs. Petit is the place.

Thanks Stephan, seems there's a whole load of learning to be done.

What I was referring to was viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10575

How would this rate in terms of your recommendations?

Airplane is manufactured by a company called solowings - they are local and based in KZN. The trike is an aquilla and they are very capable and very good airplanes. Certainly falls in the good for a starter aircraft that will simply continue to work for you long after.
