Rotax 912S Fuel Economy - 100LL (Avgas) vs 95UL

Postby Perry » Mon Dec 05, 2005 12:06 pm

Folks,

I may be mistaken but I have recently found that my near new 912S seems to burn Avgas at a significantly higher rate than 95 Unleaded - by as much as a third...

Can anyone advise whether this is usual?

Also, even though Rotax seem to not say anything contrary, but is it really Ok to mix your tank of unleaded with a topup of Avgas?

Please advise?

I have not noticed any significant increase in fuel consumption on my 914 when using AVGAS. I do sometimes get the distinct feeling that the engine seems to lose a little power when running on AVGAS, but that's purely subjective. I haven't found a way to substantiate that.

Hello guys

I'm also of the opinion that I get a small loss in power when I use Avgas.
I'm not sure anymore but the use of Avgas with Unleaded doesn't pose any real danger. I think the increase in the octane level just causes your motor to run a bit warmer.

I think a tank of Avgas here and there wont be a problem, but if you permanently change to Avgas you have to change your jets etc...????

Miren, maybe you can help us?
