503 B box Gearbox oil change

Postby extra300s » Thu May 28, 2009 1:13 pm

Hi guys. What is the procedure to changing ones gearbox oil and or just checking that the level is correct? And where do you buy the oil?

I know of the drain plug at the bottom and the filler plug at the top. Allso saw on a drawing that there are actually 2 level check screws - this does not make sense to me.

Thanks
Karl

Gearoil, API-GL5 or GL6 SAE 140EP, 85W - 140EP

looks like the B gearbox takes 300 to 330 ml of oil, Fill to the lower oil level plug

Replace every 100 hours

There's 2 level screws because you can fit the box upside down as well. Then you use the other one. Any case, use the lower one as Morph has said.

Thanks guys!

Makes sense now. Could not figure out the reason for two level plugs... The oil available at most car spare places?

Talking about Gearboxes. On my 582, how many hours until I have to change oil for fresh one?
