This is surely on of the best projects that I followed and surely the best combination ever. The radial engine fits the the immage of the Fox the best. Dit moet absoluut fantasties wees om so 'n projek aan jou CV te heg. Boet, and who ever stands behind you, well done. What a great job.Boet wrote:Or oil..... damn thing is marking it`s territory.

Re: Radial Explorer Project - Da Animal
I am busy getting the paperwork together. The dual AP engine and control system sign-off is a bit of a logistical bugger-up. The closest AP to me is 4 weeks on horseback away. Should be sorted out by Wednesday this coming week.

Yeah, I told you, you live in Moerlandspan! Even the ants in Loeriesf...sorry, I mean, Moerlandspan, jumped at the first oppurtunity they could get into my Jiepie when I was there 4 weeks ago
. No movies and shopping centres there in Moerlandspan. Now they can't find their way out of the Jiepie
.
How's your Baby coming along? Time to get the BeeEm sipping some mogas fumes down this way. Four days on old Plonk over all these big klippe and his hoof irons will be shot.
And....maybe, I can score a flip again

Thanks Ben, for your kind words. I have to fit some taps and an electric scavenge oil pump to the Radial engine. A steep learning curve for me as well. I now know a LOT more about radial engines and the operation thereoff. Fascinating. Peppers she`s almost ready now.

SIGH.....
1 step forward 10 steps back......
We are ready to fly and even CAA is playing along, now BAM......
Engine has to go back to Oz for "FREE upgrade". Feverishly looking for a shipping agent who can help ship it back in a hurry. Boet is already "boxing" it for shipment. Originally when the factory advised of "free" upgrade last year, only benefit seemed to be use of Mogas. Now many moons down the line it seems it a whole new engine done at their cost and that it a must do rather than optional nice to have.
ANY SHIPPING AGENTS THAT CAN HELP PLEASE CONTACT ME.....

Arrgghhh. George & Boet I feel your pain
For a moment i thought you were going to say that the engine self destructed
..... so I suppose it could be worse - not so much in terms of time, but definitely in terms of cost.
Strongs guys!

Re: Radial Explorer Project - Da Animal
Jaaaa OK, so we have been in contact with the VERY kind and helpfull people at Rotec. I made contact to find out more about the operation of the engine. Not being too familiar with the radial engine, I wanted to make doubly sure that I did not make a booboo with RV`s pride and joy. The rotec guys checked against the engine no, and because there has been so many improvements made on these engines, they offered to update the engine at no charge. A VERY generous offer. It is obvious that these guys are very eager to please, and 100% behind their product.
The engine has been run, and it makes beeeaudifull music, but hardly a day later, when I turned the prop, it showed all signs of serious hydraulic lock. Fortunately I did not attempt to scavenge and re-start, because that would possibly have led to serious damage. Confirmed by my contact at rotec.
The engine needs a couple of improvements, mainly to do with the oil scavenging back to the sump. We want this aircraft to run fault-free, and be as reliable as possible. It will be a high profile unit, so.......
I removed the engine, and it stands crated and ready to leave back to OZ.
But the rotec guys promised a short turn-around time. This has been the main hold up, and the reason why we went quiet for a while, but the loose ends are now coming together.

Re: Radial Explorer Project - Da Animal
Very noble of you gentleman to take a hiccup of such proportion in your stride.........Send it all the way here to be told it is missing a few mods. It's not as if you're just up the road. Can they not fly here at their cost and time to do these? If it was me, I would have thrown my toys and they would have landed in the factory in Aus.... Must be a huge disappointment.

Re: Radial Explorer Project - Da Animal
I would insist that they pay for me to go with the engine to oz to make sure there are no hiccips.

Re: Radial Explorer Project - Da Animal
No gentlemen, you have this all wrong. This engine is out of warranty by a looooong shot. The guys at the factory OFFERED to do an update to the newest specs AT NO COST TO THE CUSTOMER. THAT is good after sales service if you have never seen it. Please do not say anything wrong about these guys, they are very down to earth, and very aproachable. I give them 10/10.
The only costs will be to get the engine there and back......
