Radio interference from Garmin 196
My Icom A4 radio and Garmin 196 GPS are positioned about 200mm apart on my instrument panel. If I run the GPS from batteries, NO interference but if I use the GPS on the aircraft's DC supply it causes a lot of interference to the extent that the radio is unusable. I have used the radio with the short stub antenna and also with a homemade Wonder-whip - no difference whatsoever.
Anybody with a possible solution to my problem?
Thanx

Re: Radio interference from Garmin 196
Do a search, zulu has posted alot of info on the 196 inferference. I have never heard of anything quite so sever as what you mention. Is is interfering on all frequencies or just around 131? Try playing with the squelch on the radio.
Try angling the antenae away from the GPS unit.

I had some interference after fitting a Garmin 196 but just rerouting the antena cable solved the problem.
I sometimes get confused............But i'm not sure

Hi.
Had the exact same problem.
Firstly place the GPS away from the radio; I used a ram camera mount to swing it away from the pod.
Secondly I installed Zulu’s V Bunny and problem solved!!
Safe flying.

Thanks everybody for valuble and sensible input. Seems my problem is solved by adjustment of the squelch. Simple things that I did not think of- 2 koppe beter as een goes the afrikaans saying.
Appreciate all your help.

Re: Radio interference from Garmin 196
Never had any problems with the workings of the 196. What do you mean by wrong readings? Have a read through the manual and make sure you have the set up correct and you are not doing something wrong.EL MEXICANO wrote:I ALSO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH GARMIN 196 ,SOMETIMES THE LAST 5 MILES FROM MY DESTINATION GIVES ME WRONG READINGS, I CHANGE DESTINATION THEN SET IT BACK TO DESTINATION I WANT AND IT,S O.K. Generally GPS's are quite reliable, except for a Magellan I once had that changed all my waypionts to the Northern hemisphere as soon as i had saved them...

Zulu is your man
I run 196 with A5 and Zulu-Box and V-rabbit - No worries
Gps pretty close to radio, no interference as it is powered through the Zulu-Box

Re: Radio interference from Garmin 196
I've heard of interfearance with the 296 but not the 196!
In one of ZULU1's posts on this subject he said, if you fly a trike, he suggested putting the antennae on the kingpost and routing the wire down the main pylon and under the keel of the aircraft before routing it back up to the radio. This should stop interfearance. Speak to Zulu1 for more info.
I don't know if it will work, but it works with the AirMagic V-Rabbits! (Zulu1's V antennaes)
Hope this helps.
