Wing sail manufacturer

Postby Ranger » Tue Apr 21, 2009 10:03 am

Does anyone know of a company in Cape Town that will manufacture a trike wing sail from a sample sail? What company will repair a sail?
I sometimes get confused............But i'm not sure

Hi Ranger , I am in the same boat as you , have to redo my sail. I also have a brand new sail that I bought as a windlass sail which I suspect was made by "Plane sailing" (closed down) who got the patterns etc. from Alverbank who made sails for yaghts etc. I sent this sail to Solowings who said they weren't prepaired to fit it as it differed from the standard pattern and they had various complaints about non factory sails. The problem is that whoever makes a sail from your old wingsail may not be in specification because of stretched sail etc. that may cause handling problems. To make a long story short , it is OK to have boat people make sails for the old MX type aircraft but the flexfing sails are a different ballgame.
Rather speak to the original manufacturer and stay safe. They will repair and testfly the wing before you get it back.

This is just my 2 cents , after going through the effort (**)

Kingfisher I agree with you. Solowings haven't come back to me yet after I contacted them a week ago. I haven't received any response from the forum after posting in the wanted section either exept from Larry i.c.w a wing in Grahamstown. No wing no fly. I wonder if I can log hours taxing up and down the runway vhpy vhpy . Anyway i'll keep on looking.

My advice would be to courier your wing to solowings for repair & bite the bullet for the bucks.
You will be flying quicker and safely.
Best of luck Boet. vhpy
