Lyk my ek is die ouman. A company 1979.

Dalk moet ons so n bymekaarkom reel.Voel sommer lus om nou n pakhuis te gaan hardloop!

Ek onthou vaagweg so iets.

Ladies and gentleman, I present you the fakawie brird, The fakawie bird?, what on earth is the Fakawie bird?. Its a small bird that flies high over the desert and is totally lost. And it shouts, wherethefakawie, wherethefakawie.......... Amazing,... Incredible,....... bull Sh@#t.....Were off to see the wild west showwwwwww ..........

I sang it to my daughter in the car on the way to Cape Town a month ago!

We should really have a get together.Must admit, I do not look like a paratrooper anymore........856 landings tended to damage muscles in the abdominal area..........looks like I'm carrying a permanent emergency shute!

And if you guys want I can bring along a lekke ou pampoen shute. you can touch, smell hold it and , but then it comes back. I'm planning to convert it to a balistic shute !

And finally it happened! Actually it happened a week ago already , but only had time to post now. Already have two hours under the belt and no woman will ever use sex as a weapon against a man again.........flying beats anything a woman can offer! OK maybe I'm a bit to hasty now, but still, if we can get woman to believe it..........! puff

(Must admit the 503 on my Hornet did not quite perform like the 912 turbo I was simulating with my mouth while flying in the hanger all those night.)

It was surprisingly easier then I expected, but then again we are only doing the basics. Bossie did a stall, steep turn, side slipping etc just to demonstrate and after that let me fly straight, turn etc.

Then came the wake up call. Yesterday the AP came to inspect some planes for ATF. I got to the hanger to find the right rear tyre flat and two black marks about 25cm long on the cement behind the tyre. The tyre burst a second before the plane stopped while we pushed it into the hanger the previous day. When I opened the rim I found the Black plastic valve cap inside the casing. It was stuck between the tyre and tube and eventually chafed through the tube untill it popped. If the tyre had to burst in the air or during landing the result may have been diffirent. Needles to say I inspected the other three wheels and somehow it did not seem to be such a lot of work, conserning the alternative.

How times fly! Things got not have been better for me. Right from the word go everything went perfect. The wheather never missed a beat and in no time I'm up to 10 hours. Taking off, landing, stalls, straight and level flight, high speed landings, glide approaches ets......everything just seemed to come together for me. I must admit that flying radio control definitaly helped as the principals are the same. The first time I flew straight and level flight down the runway I could not believe how easy and well I did it. Keeping it 50cm off the deck was like flying my rc trainer.

Not all whent 100% though. Had one bounce and one two wheeled landing that nearly progressed to a goosewalk before I pushed the wing forward and full throttle to fly out of it.But that all focused my mind even more and everything was a learning experience. Like the day I looked down and saw the EGT's on 870 degrees! Fortunately it was a faulty connection, but never again after that did I neglect to check ther guages regularly!

And now I have some more engineouts after take aff and emergency landings left and then the solo. All going well about another 2 hours!

But ALOT of the credit , if not all has to go to my instructor, Bossi Mosman. A lot of people could teach me to fly, but he tought me to fly safe.He never once complained to meet me at 5am to fly , always patients. Everytime explain what we are going to do and after the lesson spent a half an hour and sometimes 2 hours, debriefing. For the confidence to , after the 3rd straight and level flight at 50cm and less over the runway , tell me " volgende keer sit jy haar neer" and let me do it, and then , when the adreneline and confidence were running high, to gently bring me down to earth .

And then my old trusty Hornet and Rotax 503 DCDI. At R32000 I could not have done better.Never missed a beat, always start on the second pull, always run at 6500rpm for 10/ 20 minute stretches . For twice during landings, when I bounced or nearly goosewalked and then slammed the throttle full down with the wing full forward performed like a 582 and flew us to safety. I have made a vow to take her to my work year end function this year...........!

What a great sport we have and be able to talk to old hands afterward and always learn something from them.

Love your work!!!!

I allso flew rc before I climbed into a trike. Allso bought a trike before I started to train. Never looked back. Great fun. Rc helped me especially on flying the circuit and lining her up nicely.

Keep well and that solo is something to look forward to hey! Lets us know how things go.

Cheers

Hi All...Just to let you know that I have found this forum to be a fountain of info, advise and inspiration. This has motivated me to enquire about enrolling for my MPL (trike). Being 40+vat I would like to ask one question which I have not yet seen on this forum. Is there a limit of how many hours one can spend training per day or per week. I ask this question because due to my work I can only attend training / classes for two weeks every 3 months. I work on a 3 month away 2 week vacation rotation. I would really appreciate it if someone could advise me on this. (I also hope that this is the correct place to ask this question).....thanks....Barry

Barry - for a start - you should be able to do it for less than R40k.
Then - no it really depends on you as a person how much you retain from the previous lessons and how fast you learn but doing it for 2 weeks on - 3 months off should not be a major obstacle - might just take a littel longer.
Nuts about Cheetahs. Petit is the place.

Hi Barry. Must agree with you on the forum. As for your question I can only give you my perspective as a student pilot with 12 hours training. I am about to solo iN the next week. I personally dont think training every 3 months will be enough. Especially when it comes to landings and emergency landings. When the weather was bad for a week i had to do a couple of landings just to get the feeling and confidence again.. After three months it will be like starting from scratch again. There is a thread on the forum that discusses how training hours increase as one gets older.. A 25 yo will take much quicker then someone me our age. I think it is somewhere im the vicinity of 36 hours for a 40 to to get his licence and 25 hours for a 25yo. But i stand corrected.. I flew radio controlled before starting microlights and it helped me a lot as the principals of flight for both are the same. On my 4TH straight and level flight i landed.10years as a paratrooper 856 jumps made me used to be swinging in the air so a enjoyed stall etc where most guys hate it apparently. So i personally think that two weeks every three months will not be enough but that also may depend the student. The best would be to ask an instructor. My instructor does not think it will work so well but lets hear what the experienced pilots say. Maybe it would be better to see if you can get 3Weeks of and do your whole course im one go. I know there are schools that advertise three week courses. Hopes this help. But what i know for sure is dont give up. Do it whatever it takes. Regards Cor
