Henley Aero Modelers Airshow 2009 (& Breakfast Fly-Inn)

Postby Skinner » Fri Apr 03, 2009 10:35 am

Henley Aero Modelers will once again have it's annual airshow on 09 May 2009. The main airshow will start at 10am. Entrance fee - R20 adults, R10 children under 12, babies free :)
We invite all aviation enthusiasts to join us for this amazing event. Bring the softness and kids, there will be more than 60 flea market stall and a few jumping castles to keep them occupied while you watch the displays and visit the beer garden
We also invite microlighters to fly in from sunrise, the main tar runway will be open for takeoff and landing until 09:45am, after which arrival will be restricted to the dirt runway and departure controlled from the tar runway (we'll have 2 or 3 slots during the day when we'll allow takeoff from the tar). We do however encourage you to stick around for the airshow, guys who joined us last year would agree that it is not to be missed  Breakfast will be available from 7am till 09:30, we've learned a few lessons from last year and hope to make it enjoyable for everyone.
Check out the poster attached for more details.
See you there :!:

It's going to cost you  ...we'll at least demand a copy of the photo's
No Problem, I'll be on the flight line and arrange for access to the pits etc. :)
Will be awesome to have you there taking photo's so others can see what they missed.

Just a reminder of the awesome event :!:
We'd love to get some microlighters to join us :) Last year we gave hats to guys who flew in, this year we'll try for badges or some form of memento. I however need to get an indication of how many guys will join...I know it's difficult to commit with the weather factor. I'll post more details shortly.
For the guys coming by car or sticking around after breakfast, here's just a hint of what to expect:
1. Large scale aerobatics, we've got a 1/2 scale Edge 540 with a pilot from Durban (MT) who can prophang this 1/2 meter from the ground :o
2. Pylon Racing, quickies screaming close to 300km/h
3. Turbine Jets, for those who joined us at Jets Over Henley, you'll know what this is about, awesome :o
4. 3D Heli, SA champ, Henke Beyers mowing the grass inverted.
5. Fun Fly, pilots doing what planes are not suppose to do.
6. Scale Warbirds
7. Display by the Snake Team
8. Aerial FX Skydivers
9. Possible displays by the Flying Lion Harvards & a L39 Jet.
10. Heli Flips by Henley Air

& Much More

Here's an aerial pic of our field, we're looking forward to you joining us vhpy

More detail regarding the breakfast. I just spoke to the caterers and it will be a full breakfast consisting of eggs, mince, bacon, bread rolls, a muffin and coffee. We're not aiming to make any profit, we just want to get you guys to join us. To cover costs the price of the brekkie will be R35. "Henley Airshow 2009" badges will be available at R15. We're changing the field layout this year to park you guys close to the main tar runway and you won't have to taxi through the "veld" :)
The tar runway will be open for unlimited use until 09:45am, after which we'll control landings and takeoff's. More on joining procedure and frequencies later this week. I'll appreciate if you guys can give tentative indication of your participation.

Thanks,
Mike Skinner.

Hi Mike,

Sounds good ! How long is the main runway ? Any high obstructions on the approach ?

Regards,
Rudi

Hi Rudi, will be great to have you there vhpy
The main tar runway (01/19) is 300m long with no immediate obstacles, power lines to the south but only 600m or so from the apron of 01. The other tar runway is the same length but with power lines on the apron of 08. We also have a grass runway (10/28), it's 400m + long but with power lines on the apron of 10. Please try and get some more guys from Rhino to join, would be great to have a crowd :) I'm trying to get some more discount on the brekkie for the microlighters, or the badges for free  , will keep you posted.

Cheers,
Mike.

For those who will be flying in:

Tar runway 01R/19L will be in use until 09:30am. We'll have a radio on the ground 125.400. Join overhead at 6000ft and land at own discretion. Once on the ground go to 135.500 for parking instructions. (hope the Klip guys don't mind us sharing this frequency) In crosswind conditions and after 09:30am grass runway 10L/28R will be in use, join to the north of the field and land at own discretion. The ground radio operator will only be in a position to advise, and not give instructions. Very few pilots have confirmed, we're catering for 100 brekkies, sure not to run out like last year (**) If you feel like dropping in, please do, what's not sold to microlighters will be sold to the public

Looking forward to see a couple of you there.
