OIL?????

Postby wiskeyfoxtrot » Mon Mar 09, 2009 7:05 am

Hi guys,

i am at present using Castrol R1 ( TTS in the old days ) for pre mix. I would like to know what other oils can be used as this stuff is becomming VERY expensive.
I have been told that Castrol R1 is the best ?? ( have been using it from day 1 in my motor )
There are all kinds of stories about chinsaw oil and all others????
Am a worried to change without some feedback on what to use and stay clear of !

Thanks guys

Difficult choice. That is expensive though. I use BP Vistra Mineral Oil, and found the carbon deposits to be less than the previous brand I used. They are about R24-00 for 500ml. That is about half your price.

But then
On the other hand, Darren
no matter what oil you use, you will have carbon deposits and everything that goes with it. And all oil types do the normal oil thing like lubricates, cooling, etc. I would change for sake of saving a bit of dough to go and fly more.

Just remember to either stick to mineral or synthetic, or flush your system to change.

Thanks Wargames,

I will try to find out from other oil companies what their equivilant is and will report back on cost.
Just for the hell of it, we could all save some ash and have a better quality oil.

have used synthetic oil from first day so i will stay with that.
The cost of your oil is very low, - fantastic, but is it mineral or synthetic ??

Thanks for your interest

It is mineral, but you do get it in synthetic as well.

What motor do you have?

582 - Super Outboard

503 - Super Chainsaw

There is no proof that synthetic gives you any more performance or protection than the mineral oils. You are burning the oil away. So to me there is absolutely no value in spending more for nothing. It's like pouring money down the drain.

If you buy your oils per box from the depot (20 X 500ml) you can get away with R18.86 per 500ml.

You can buy direct from any Castrol depot

Thanks Morph,
I do agree with you. I think that a lot of time you are paying for the name and nothing else!.

I havnt had time to get hold of any other oil companies but will try . Will post their specs etc when i get them.

Thanks again for all the help and advice.
( mabey a sticky would not be a bad idea )
