Management might be changing now at GC......
Nuts about Cheetahs. Petit is the place.

Re: Real cost of ownership
Yip. Read about unfortunate passing of JR. With Gautrain coming it is a little gold mine if they get their act together....

Re: Real cost of ownership
I did my first PPL renewal there a few years back (2001) while on holiday here from the UK. I did my PPL at FAWB and I loved it, due to some strange circumstances (to do with one of their instructors), they couldn't do my PPL renewal for me so had to go to FAGC.
It's not that I don't 'like' the place as such, it's just that I prefer FAWB or FALA. I guess I was comfortable at FAWB but I reckon that'll always be the case with the airfield where you did your ab initio training. I don't enjoy the fact that it's so close to JHB intl airspace and compared to FAWB/FALA, the GF is a fair bit of flying away. It's a 'radio' airfield only with no formal ATC and I believe it's going to stay that way so I doubt if there'll be airline/scheduled flying interest...
I guess I'll give it another go now that I've had the "vuurdoop" of flying in the most congested airspace that is Southern England. It has nothing to do with the people or the management there I must add. Although I definitely won't spend my money at one the the flying schools there...

Strange - The reason you like FAWB and FALA is reason I don't
. Nothing against ATC, they just too dam busy. Spent 40mins at holding point at FAWB and got stuck in Que at FALA. Spent more time on ground than in air going to Rand... When you pay on hobbs, time on ground is wasted unless you hr building
