Assistance with replacement engine (non aviation)

Postby IceAge » Wed Feb 18, 2009 10:50 am

My appologies for being forward and asking this question on the forum, but I know there are plenty of very knowledgable people on this forum that will be able to assist me as I have been sent around the block a couple of times without success and am now as confused as a chameleon on a smartie box

The question is that I have a very old (1982) Toyota Corolla which I want to build up. The engine which was a 1300 RWD (4k engine) has blown and I would like to replace it with something that uses unleaded fuel, ie. a more current version. The question now is what replacement Toyota engines would fit onto the gearbox and chassis without major alterations to engine mountings and gearbox. I have been recommended 5K, 7AFE, RSI, etc. PLEASE help

Also if possible could you point me to a 'reputable installer' in the Pretoria region that I can make use of.

Thanking you in advance

Happy landings

Hi Deon,

Contact Wannenburg in PTA. They will be able to help you with an engine and possibly fit it as well. They are a mine of information.

Hope this helps

Kind regards,

I had a Jap import sub assembly installed 4Y Hlux 84' installed for about seven grand 2 years ago, with a 12month's warrentee. Can reccomend it - done 120 000km and going strong.

Hardly pays to re-build.

Check out in the Junk Mail for the agents, or anyone you know in the car industry.

Can echo that. There is reputable engine importers in Pretoria. Look in the back of a Car magazine, the block ads, lots of engine importers there. Pay them a visit, walk around the engines, and talk to the guys, they usually know their engines - Engine Den in Church street west comes to mind.

Know two guys who are very happy with their imported engines running like clockwork.

You can also speak to Shane. He knows his toyotas fairly well. Ask him if maybe something like a 4AGE might fit that box. 082 778 6425

The A series engine will not fit that box without changing the bell housing. Bell housings to mate any A series - 4AGE, 4AFE, 7AFE engines are readily available.

PM me if you wish to go the A series route, I can point you in the right direction.
