Gearbox oil EP90 or 140

Postby nickjaxe » Fri May 19, 2006 10:30 pm

Hi all the book says EP140 for my rotax 503 gearbox but I have been told EP90 is ok, drained the box last night the old oil looks thick in comparison to the EP90 that I put in, is it important to use EP140.

Generally, the hotter the climate, the higher the oil number.
EP90 should be OK. I have not heard of anyone who has had a failure because of it. Only thing is the oil may get too thin in VERY hot conditions and "weep" out at different places.
Will lubricate just fine though.

Hi Guys , there are somany good oils available today , - I currently use a 85 w 140 for my gearboxes B C and E boxes - these are specialyy formulated for todays high performance cars , high torgue , long distances as well as no or low foaming - make sure you ask for an EP rating , being Extreme pressure , try it you will feel and hear the difference , (^^)
