Hi all the book says EP140 for my rotax 503 gearbox but I have been told EP90 is ok, drained the box last night the old oil looks thick in comparison to the EP90 that I put in, is it important to use EP140.
Nick.

Generally, the hotter the climate, the higher the oil number.
EP90 should be OK. I have not heard of anyone who has had a failure because of it. Only thing is the oil may get too thin in VERY hot conditions and "weep" out at different places.
Will lubricate just fine though.

EP 90 or 140
Hi Guys , there are somany good oils available today , - I currently use a 85 w 140 for my gearboxes B C and E boxes - these are specialyy formulated for todays high performance cars , high torgue , long distances as well as no or low foaming - make sure you ask for an EP rating , being Extreme pressure , try it you will feel and hear the difference ,

A pilot lives by perfection , or not at all!
