Why no Rotax oil injection for the South African market?

Postby FAWGie » Tue May 23, 2006 11:13 pm

A question that still bothers me is to why no Rotax oil injection engines are shipped for the South African market?

When I was in the States at Osh in 2003, all the rotax 503/582 engines had two strok oil injection fitted, in line with modern 2-atroke motorcycle engines....

Why is SA different?

Anyone?

I had oil injection in both my Kitfox and Aquilla. Both with 582's.

I did hear that for a period Solo Wings were not fitting the oil injection systems to their 582 powered trikes.

The Rotax 582 engines are available with and without oil injection systems, these are also available for the 503 on request.

Is there any benifit of having the oil injection ???? Mixing in the fuel seems pretty easy. If there is any benefit is it possible to fit oil injection to 582 that does not have it and at what cost ???

Thanks Niren !

So it really is only a matter of owners choice in SA and of course the manufacturer like Solo Wings who have preferred not to use injection for their planes.....

None of our planes in East London have it fitted and there is always a flurry to mix oil with petrol, etc...etc.....

In the USA, they ONLY use oil injection......

Solowings take most of their engines with oil injection. A very small number of them are supplied without.

Approx. R2800-00 excl VAT, We do have the pumps in stock, but will need to get a few other bits required for installation on the 503 from Rotax.

Please make sure that the rewind starter on your engine has a hole through the centre of the starter housing. The pump is fitted onto the rewind starter and drive is from the end of the crankshaft.
