Re: Margate to Microland.
Well technically you are landing on a National road. Albeit the servitude...sheesh the guys have been doing that for years at Escourt Ultra city? Someone must have complained I guess.Thatchman wrote:BM, I heard that they dishing out a R10 000 fine if you land at the Ultra City now

Unless its a forced/precautionary landing you'd be liable for the same/similar fine on any other national road.
Oom Paul what about:
Margate to Escourt (The aerodrome ) 110NM
Escourt to Volksrust 99NM
Volksrust to FABA 115NM
Nice short legs compared to Namibia!

Re: Margate to Microland.
Who is levying this fine? CAA? Or is it someone else? Does anyone know what the basis for the fine is?
Cheers

Re: Margate to Microland.
Only the enforcement division of CAA can issue you with a fine...which you can appeal if you feel aggrieved. (I would imagine you would!)CVStrong wrote:Who is levying this fine? CAA? Or is it someone else? Does anyone know what the basis for the fine is?

If you paid R10k to the petrol pump attendent......then I'm afraid you've been screwed.
Re: Margate to Microland.
CV, it does not have to be for a braai. Just come and visit anytime.
About landing at the Escourt Shell Ultra City. The way I understand it, the land is private and therefore if you have permission from the owner (Manager) to land on it, you can. The owner must be contacted before you land and he has never said NO. He likes it, because it attracts attention and therefore business. He aslo sells fuel to the pilots. Other fuel stations are not used in this way because they do not have a suitable strech which could be used as a runway.
Right of Admission Reserved.

Yip, that's the one.
It is even listed in Microlight Airfields of South Africa as an airfield with a contact number for the Ultracity.
Just clear it with him before or soon after you land.
Having said all that, I would look for an alternative if I can.

Re: Margate to Microland.
Bad planning, I say.

What needs to happen is that the CAA must give us a reason for the fines.
I will e mail Hannelie at CAA and get clarification.
Rather avoid it until you know....but hey... you're the pilot.

Registration markings size is also a new thing getting fined by THEM. They are bragging about the amount of money the are generating for the caa with this Bulls$&@0?. I would like to see how they fit the correct size registration on a Jabie or a GyroJohn Boucher wrote:Thatch... please provide me the name of the person or provide with more details if possible (PM or e-mail)

I do not have any details but just remember someone telling me about it after a Berg trip. It may have come from Tribal or Demon after one of their trips. I dont think it was anyone in their group but just feedback that they had got.

I have sent a mail to RAASA to follow up on the rumor's surrounding fines being issued for landing at the Ultra city in question. I will report back when I have had a response.
Your ARO can do nothing if the pilots who have recieved these fines do not contact us with the details of their case. Here's why...
The CAA is not forthcoming with information regarding these cases and at no stage in the process is the ARO informed of the outcome or reasoning behind and enforcement case. Even upon direct request for info regarding our members by Misasa we are told that the info is confidential?
It's all very secretive which to be honest really iritates me as an EXCO member. How do we know the system is not being abused?
How are we supposed to inform our members of a safety problem/dangerous flying practice if we are not informed of this?
If the CAA has an enforcement case against a pilot, why is there no NOTAM/AIC issued as a warning to others not to do the same?
The whole system is dysfunctional if you ask me.
If you have been issued any fine by the CAA, please contact JB or myself with the details so that we can get to the bottom of the matter.
Here's the thing Goose, we as Misasa need to know who these pilots/operators are.Goose wrote:Registration markings size is also a new thing getting fined by THEM.
