Newbie- Want to get into microlighting

This weekend I done a flight (as a passenger) on a micro light at Rosslyn microflyers !! Thanks a ton guys...

Wow it was awesome !! Now I really want to get into this... Whats my next steps (Okay I guess I will have to go through all the posts on this site and read up way more up about microlighting).

But guys what you do is an excellent sports and I will definitely researching as to how to go about getting myself a micro light and a licence.

What do you guys believe would be my first step? Get me a microlight and then go on the training, or first do some training and then go for the micro light??

Anyone know of any good reference material (besides this site) that I can start reading up on this sports on ?

Firstly MyKey, welcome to the Microlighters Forum. Here you will find tons of useful information as well as some not so useful but never-the-less amusing to read. The wealth of knowledge amongst the people here is invaluable.

I would agree to spend some time reading some of the posts here as that will give you a better insight into our sport. As for the training, I personally would suggest that you at least start your training and almost be complete with that on a school plane before you look at investing in your own aerie. That is my personal suggestion and I am sure there are others that may suggest otherwise.

As for a training school, make sure it is as close to where you stay as possible. Our type of flying is generally fair-weather flying and there is nothing more frustrating than having to drive for an hour to get some training in only to find out that the weather at the airfield is not good.

100% start and complete your training on a school plane.

There is a romatisicism involved with your own aerie, but if you bend it you fix it, whereas the school planes are insured.

Besides, right now, you have no clue of what you want to buy

learn to fly, go for as many flips as you can smokkle with your mates and members of the school, then decide what you want.

and most importantly, have fun

If you go to:

If there is a question that you have that I have not answered please post it here - you are sure to get an answer. Please do this as it will help me improve the "Learn to Fly" story.

- you will see a row of pictures in which the middle picture is of Alex Rudd towing his Microlight in a Merc down a Transkei road and on the immediate right of the Merc is a young lad pushing his chest out so that you are able to see him more clearly than Alex in his Merc! (Alex is Chairman of MISASA & further down you will see him in his garage - count the microlight parts!)
