What would the ideal RPM setting be for a 503 cruising straight and level at +/- 50 miles/h? Is 5800 rpm too high?
My engine goes up to 6900rpm at full throttle.... any problems with that?
thanks
Jodie

Re: 503 RPM
5000 straight and level at 1500ft ASL one up. Take off it revs up to a smidgen below the red, 6900. That is with the three bladed AEROS prop.

Yes, you are overreving the motor. Max rpm for 5 minutes is 6800. Max cruise RPM is 6500soekiwindni wrote:What would the ideal RPM setting be for a 503 cruising straight and level at +/- 50 miles/h? Is 5800 rpm too high?

The pitch of your prop blade is slightly low or you have a smaller prop, or your rpm guage is not reading correctly.
I would say your plane climbs great but obviously suffers on the cruise.
You want to cruise at 75% power which is about 5500 max

Re: 503 RPM
I have found the tachs that run off the 503 motor can be way out, i set mine up with a hand held laser type.
