John
Contact Batman in this site, he has my old Vertex. You can have it for nothing, but it will need a new battery. If he does not have the antenna, then I will find it in my kit bag for you.

Re: looking for handheld radios 4sale
I have spoken to the local agents (Verstay) as we have bought many products from them via their distribution network.
Unfortunately something is not right with the local price levels and we have seen this in Australia with their agent also. Yaesu (Vertex Standard) offer a worldwide guarantee so no need to concern. These radios do not go wrong anyway !!
The VXA 220 is absolutely the best handheld available at present for trikes/ultralights. It really is fantastic.
So we (our Australia) agents and ourselves are going to direct import and hopefully be on a par with world wide pricing levels.
I have spoken with the local importers and advised same as we wish to be on the same side / they just dont return calls....
So If you feel inclined buy from these guys direct, our Australian agent buys from them (and also Singapore) they are very reliable and we have cables which we import for the intercom hitch up sourced from Korea. I dont mind a profit but extortion...
http://www.gulf-coast-avionics.com/cat. ... =handhelds
We will have some stock ( our imports) available in the next two weeks, expect from us about R1,800.00 all in which is not as cheap as if you source yourself.
Our objective is to keep the cost of flying acceptable so we have no secrets...
We can supply the SMA-BNC adaptors for R20 !!

Connection details Icom/Vertex
OK..For those chaps that wish to import and convert from Icom to Vertex Standard (only the VXA220 and VXA710) I attach a picture of the connections of the two plugs. We make the Icom Plugs ourselves and I advise our colours which are the same as Icom standard. Various items have been imported over the years and no guarantee on the Icom colours supplied.
The Vertex plug is the same as what is supplied with the radio. THE CT91 adaptor from Vertex is not the same, beware of that product. I attach a picture of the components that may be purchased to home make an adaptor.
Simply cut off the two GA sockets supplied with the radio, purchase a small housing a 2,5mm stereo socket a 3,5mm mono socket and a small grommet. Solder to the configuration and thats about it. The radio performs the same as a Icom ICA3/22, 4, 5/23 series. The pitch is exactly 10mm.
We change Airmagic chatterboxes at no charge, just send us the plug and cover the cost of postage.
Remember when using with other systems, set the side tone to ST1 and the ANL must be on. Air MAgic and Lynx no need.
So in short a economical answer to old radios is import direct, then head off to nearest electronics supplier to make the adaptor. Maximum about R50,00
