Re: Botswana air tour
Hi,
Will there be ground support or will we land at places where fuel is available?
Where will we stay? B&B, or camp in tents where we land?
What would the maximum distance be between fuelling points?
Is there a rough figure of the costs for the trip. (example trike, 2up, burning 15liters an hour @55Mph as well as accommodation etc).
Is there a special permit neccessary for the aircrafts to enter Botswana?
Is sounds like a GREAT trip. Please supply as much info as possible!! This can become VERY exciting.
Best Regards

Re: Botswana air tour
Hi guys,
Just returned from Bots on a similar trip - one Bantam & one Jabiru. Was great, just one snag - radios! At Maun the approach frequency is 126.0 : no problem, but Tower @ 118.7 Big problem! Very bad tower coms and understandably very agitated ATCs and shaken up pilots. The Bantam flies out of Fly-Inn and the Jabi out of Grand Central and a radio problem has never been experienced before on either. We now realise that the antennas on both ac is fine in the middle region of the frequency band, but very bad at the edges of the band eg 118.7Mhz. At home territory all the frquencies in use are clustered around the midpoint (for now obvious reasons) and therefore we were blissfully unaware. Maun ATC declined our request for departure until the radios were sorted - frustrating, but understandably so. Fortunately we are both electronics guys and after 3,5 h of fiddeling we were allowed to file flightplans for departure. Note that at Maun there are no elecronics guys (they are flown in from JHB). The simple rod antenna found on most microlights are just not good enough for the job. We are now fitting both ac with proper wideband antennas as found on the bigger ac. Final note : If your radio/intercom is not 100% sorted & checked out - stay home. It is not a nice experience to fly into ATC with crappy coms - It would also be easy for BCA to in future decline flight clearance to microlights if the radio thing persists being a problem to their ATC- specialy at Maun.

Re: Botswana air tour
That would have been a serious problem. They are very serious about coms.
