Weather - Cape Town

Postby Wargames » Fri Jan 18, 2008 3:12 pm

Hi Guys,

Just want to test the water on this one. I'm not flying in cape town that long.

Question: Is the weather we are experiencing at the moment worse than previous years??

I'm a regular at viewing the following 2 website for weather:

http://www.myweather.co.za/forecasts.ht ... st=alldays
http://www.windfinder.com/forecast/big_bay

Is there any other sites to get acurate on weather systems?

Any predictions as to when the weather will give us some decend airtime??

Regards,

This is CApe Town for you at this time of the year. This wind is very normal. It will carry on like this for February as well. You will get your flying gaps here and there, but apart from that you WILL eat wind now. From the middle of March it becomes better and then the time comes for those lovely sundowner flips as it still gets dark fairly late.
Beginning May the REAL good wheather starts and then you can sometimes have the most wonderful conditions for a WHOLE day. Always say NOTHING beats a nice, sunny wintersday in Cape Town.

The wind hasn't stopped for days! Didn't stop us flying though. Flew every day last week except Friday in winds of 50 - 60mph. Eric Torr will confirm this. Was windy on Saturday too and 10 Gyro's gathered at Fisantekraal. Will post pics shortly.

What I am saying in a round about way is "Get a Gyro and treble your possible flying time" :D

Confirm what Bacchus said, other than that best chance now to fly is very very early morning ie. sunrise and in a lesser degree late evenings before sunset, but now is the best time to do all the little maintenance work you want to.

And then don't forget Mondays, after the weekends wind, like today, when you back at work, not a breath of wind, they are allways the best days for flying.
