Training on own microlight

Postby Petrus07 » Fri Dec 07, 2007 12:12 pm

Hi all,
Looking for some advice. Myself and a friend baught a microlight 2weeks ago. zu-bge. Hangared at microland for now.

We now need to do training on this machine. What are the chances of doing the rating on our own machine?

We both fly for a living, so what is the best way to go about learning this whole new side of life? In terms of getting it on our licence etc.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Petrus.

???

Not sure I understand Petrus

Rating on a trike takes 1 hour if you have a current MPL - MPL takes +-30 hours

Am I understanding you correctly?

No, we have cpl's(fixed wing). Never flown a microlight before. Whole new ballgame I think.

Indeed, it is a new ball game. You did not say if the microlight is a three axis or wheightshift. AFAIK for a fixed wing you only would need a conversion. For weightshift you need a MPL. At least that was the status when I did my trike conversion. I believe there are some changes in the pipeline regarding this as from next year.

Oh, and a bit of well meant advice. I don't know what you fly commercially, but be very aware of the concept "new ballgame". Listen very carefully when the experienced microlight pilots and instructors talk about the weather, and micro meteorology. It plays a significantly bigger role than if you fly the heavies.

Regards, and have fun,

I did 90% of my training on my trike, it needs to be put on the schools books though.

Been through this recently. Does not need to be 'on the training school's books' but must be registered in the training category.

I am not sure why you would want to do it on your own trike.

Get allthosefirst heavy landings behind you using the school trike, and use yours to do the smooth stuff afterwards.
