Postby cornell » Sun Apr 29, 2007 12:07 pm

Video clip 6 mins long but it shows what pioneers these guys where.

Also notice the twin counter rotating props on most of them

Fascinating - thank goodness for Solo Wings and Rotax :!: :!: :!:

The "missed runway" grass cutting was worth a chuckle.

Not only twin props, that had 2 motors, does that mean you can get your twin rating in a microlight?

The engines were REALLY lawn mower  units. Chrysler West-Bend 2 strokes, arranged in a clever arse -about face way and a shaft-within a shaft, belt-driven configuration, driving 2 counter-rotating props. Pwew.... thanks for ROTAX I watched 2 guys at Fisantekraal with a Quicksilver. One of those jols with the stick hanging DOWN. It seems these 2 gentlemen were teaching themselves to fly the thing. They were fortunately very scared, and closed the throttle every time it just LOOKED like the thing was becoming a little "light". Very amusing. Second "microlight" sighting was the fabled Eagle. Weight shift with said engine arrangement. But the guy flying it had things well in hand. I was suitably impressed. The bug has bitten. :D
