Sikorsky S62A

Postby Cali » Sun Feb 11, 2007 1:45 pm

I saw this huge chopper land on water and thaught I must share this with the other flying nuts. Ran for my camera and was to late :x .

I got some of the chopper airborne (not the same but good to) and would like to share them if someone can just make them smaller  .

I spoke to the pilot afterwards and he said they do not like to land on the ocean because it takes ages to clean the whole thing again.

This is one awesome piece of gear!

Help please?

Hi Diesel.

I spent some time in the Oryx back in the day. I think they are about the same size but this one can land and obviously take off on water.

Did ship service out of Durban with one for Court helicopters some years ago as engineer on board. The boat hull shape, high tail rotor and floats allow the S61 and S62 to land on water. One S62 ran out of Fuel and landed on the water off Durban coast. Couple Hours later a tug came pass and it was still floating. They attached a tow rope and pulled the tall off. That was the end of that.
