Micrlight Airstrip

Postby jcls » Sat Oct 28, 2006 10:30 am

Hi everyone,
Talking on airstrip, can someone enlighten me please? :?:
1. Can I have an airstrip in my plot? (agricultural smallholding, south of Jhb)
2. Do I need approval or similar? I just want to use it for myself and my trike, no business related or similar.
3. How long and wide should the airstrip be for a trike?
4. etc.

Replays will be greatly appreciated.

First thing to do is to get the approval of all your fellow land owners as they can shoot down the project and it's not cheap.

You should know what a safe distance is for your a/c.

5 acres plot is a bit small what size land do you have and what is the general wind direction, trees are there any obsticals , wires.

Thanks for the info Demon: :D

So, I can hire a grader and do my airstrip and use it on weekends, saving a lot in hangar and car petrol to go to the field, Nevertheless I will visit the airstrip near by to have breakfast… but flying, not driving.
I live in a part of the country that is very Wild West, so neighbors should not be a problem. Any Chance that CAA or similar can object to my project?

Many thanks for the info.
Cheers,

CAA will have an issue if your field is within a TMA or CTR zone. Check on the aviation maps. If you are outside, i.e. in general flying areas etc then you should be safe and the only time you would need to speak to CAA is if you want to register your airfield.

:D
Thanks one more guys,
Well, I am not in a TMA or CTR zone, I am also out of a few “red marked” zone in the map (restricted zones), so it should not be a problem.
I will make may plan, probably I will do in January (my annual leave), then I will post some pics.
 Many thanks.
