Thanks to all those who have completed the survey so far - 94 entries.
I will respond to individuals who have offered comments or posed questions, but please be a little patient!
You will notice that we have changed the title of the survey from "Microlight" to "Microlight/NTCA". The reason for this is the provision in the CARs which, for example, defines a 2-seat microlight as having an empty weight of not exceeding 260kgs, even if the gross weight is under 450kgs. So to refer to such aircraft as "microlights" would be misleading, let alone the issue of needing a PPL to fly one, as opposed to an MPL.
Please pass the word around and encourage as many entries as possible. There's no obligation to insure, but we need as much data as we can possibly collate in order to present a credible case to Insurers.
I estimate we'll need at least 500 entries by the time the survey closes at the end of September if we are to achieve our objectives.
So, please, if you haven't completed the survey for your own aircraft, do so now.

It's been going for years, as you can see from the date of the magazine, and remains the prime source for microlight insurance in SA. However, it appears there is a general feeling that the premiums are too high and we are trying to look at the whole question from a new angle, hence the need to collate data from the microlighters themselves.Duck Rogers wrote:What happened to this one then....??Graham Speller wrote:By the way, stand by for a survey being carried out to gauge possible support for an alternative insurance programme for microlights.

Only 7 additional survey forms completed in the past 2 weeks, which is a bit disappointing. Total now 101.
Does this indicate the vast majority of microlighters are simply not interested in insurance, no matter what it costs? Or is it that so few microlighters spend time on the Internet and the message simply not gotten around yet?
Any suggestions as to how to increase the participation in this survey would be appreciated. It closes on 30 September.
Cheers
