If you want the genuine Zenair 601, these are the distributors:

uMoya Aviation and Wildlife Protection cc

Official distributor for Southern Africa

Zenair Ready To Fly aircraft, Kits & Quick-Build Kits

STOL CH701 "SkyJeep" & STOL CH801, Zodiac CH601

E-mail: umoya-aviation@iafrica.com

Mobile: Rolf +27 (0) 82 896 3225

Fax: +27 (0) 11 646 9384

The new 601XL is a major improvement over the original 601 that the raven is based on.

Bennie, his name is Carl Babst and you can contact him on; 0832852525. If you are into low wings, this aerie would be the way to go, at a fraction of the heavily overpriced Zodiac's price. The standard engine mounts and cowls are for the VW engine, but you could get a complete Jabiru engine kit with cowls and mounts for the Zodiac, which I'm told works for the Raven as well. You can enquire from Jabiru SA. The kits are available for both the 2200 & 3300. Good luck!

I agree,

The Zodiak kits are very expensive and take a long time to build.

Any ballpark figures on the Raven kit? The prices I have for the 601XL are:

R483,000 RTF
R184,000 (basic quickbuild)

How do these compare to the raven?

Sorry Bennie, it's the only number I've got. Maybe you can PM Ggaazz who recently sold his Raven, or Bushy whose a/c was/is for sale, and get the correct number from them. Justin, I stand to be corrected, but last I heard a firewall back kit was about R90,000. Best to check with Carl Babst.
