Tracking Devices for MISASA Members - Special Deal

Postby John Boucher » Tue Aug 16, 2011 9:04 pm

MISASA has 20 Kilo trackers that are used for competitions, fly-aways and in assisting pilots with anti-poaching support. You can contact the head of competitions for the log-in details and you can watch any of our competitions live on your PC as each aircraft carries one so as to enable accurate tracking of location, route, time and altitude. If you miss the competition you can log in later and replay the flight paths of all the competitors......
However, in the light of the Albats going down and valuable or critical time lost in the S&R process, MISASA (Alan in particular) has negotiated a package with KILO METERS - Location - Route - TIme!

MISASA will subsidise each valid & paid MISASA MEMBER that purchases one of the options with a certain amount....

Without too much comment on this thread and this chap saying his product is better than that product and why should I and I don't need it and so on and so on.... visit the following link : http://www.weboonline.com/MISASA/produc ... store_cat=

Firstly: This is one bloody good idea !!!!

For those of us who opt not to pay the +-4k, alternative (free) options are available to use your cellphone as a tracking device:

1) OruxMaps - Work on android cellphones and can be used for navigation and online tracking
2)Glympse - Works on Blackberry and Android for online tracking
3) VFR Planner Tracker - Symbian OS

I am sure some of the above will work on Iphone but I have not tested it.

Only thing that bothers me of all gprs/sms based tracking units is that they loose signal at about 2000 ft agl. At least it is better than nothing.

Click on my signature below to see some of my tracks and play it back

Spend some time playing with your phone, it can save your life.

I have the Kilometer job. Attached is a Google Earth track file with the Tracking details of a Trip that we did yesterday from Margate to Kroon airfield. You can do a virtual flight in Google Earth of the whole track, complete with Altitude
Replay for ZU-CLR for 2011-08-16.kmz

I have been using Google Latitude and even though I am satisfied with it's general features, I would prefer a dedicated tracking device for the aircraft.

I am definitely going for the Extended unit as I do fly in other aircraft and so cool to have the live tracking available to my loved ones....! vhpy
