Sedgefield - Low Level Trikes

Postby John Boucher » Sat Jul 30, 2011 9:36 am

Good morning all

I just received a call from an irate parent at a school sport day in Sedgefield (Garden Route) Two trikes made several really low low passes over the sport field and
obviously and inevitably over the children at this event..... the law is quite clear chaps! Regrettably the caller never got the registrations of the aircraft. Please, it does not help us trying to retain AIRSPACE such as the fight we have with GEORGE ATNS at the moment and along you come and buzz open air gatherings and behave irresponsibly. Also just giving ATNS what they want! Come on man.... BE & FLY RESPONSIBLY!
Minimum heights
91.06.32 (1) Except when necessary for taking off or landing, or except with
prior written approval of the Commissioner, no aircraft –
(a) shall be flown over built-up areas or over an open-air assembly of persons
at a height less than 1 000 feet above the highest obstacle, within a
radius of 2 000 feet from the aircraft;
(b) when flown elsewhere than specified in paragraph (a), shall be flown at
a height less than 500 feet above the ground or water, unless the flight
can be made without hazard or nuisance to persons or property on the
ground or water; and
(c) shall circle over or do repeated overflights over an open-air assembly
of persons at a height less than 3 000 feet above the surface.

Why oh why will some idiots always insist on flying low where they are not allowed and give all pilots a bad rep?

I may be wrong but maybe one of the pilots knew someone on the ground.... sort of hi, here I am... see I told you I'd fly over the school and say hi! ##

In the cradlle of mankind area, because its in or just adjacent to Lanseria CTR , often the gents are cleared to fly 5500 and below and are in touch with lanseria for all their movements.
Sometimes there is a reason to fly low legally - but over crowds and builty up areas -xX -xX -xX -xX -xX -xX -xX
