Prop O/H? What is NTCA situation?

Postby RV4ker (RIP) » Sun Mar 20, 2011 10:03 pm

What is the difference between a 5 year O/H a 10 Year O/H and a midlife on a CS prop and are they applicable in terms of parts 24 (NTCA). Can someone point me to the relevant doc's? I have Appendix 2 CA96.04.2. Is this applicable to NTCA? What if the prop has been modified. The width is already below the "spec" vs when the prop was made? (we cut 2in off and filed it down to fit new airframe)
What do they typically cost (Hartzel)

I is getting that Image feeling for the 5th time in 4 days....

All I can find is this.
SA-CATS-NTCA
Airworthiness Standards: Non-Type Certificated Aircraft

Specifically
24.03.2
ANNUAL INSPECTIONS
1.
Items to be inspected

(a)
The minimum requirements for an annual inspection of an amateur-built or production-built aircraft shall be as per Annex A.

2.2
Propellers
1.
Check metal and composite propeller blades for nicks and damage, and metal hubs and counterweights, where applicable, for condition.
2.
Check wooden propellers for condition. Check that propeller hub bolts are correctly torqued and leading edge caps are properly secured.
3.
Check security of attachment of propeller to the engine.
4.
Check propeller, where applicable, for oil leaks and for satisfactory operation.
5.
Check propeller control systems for condition and satisfactory operation.
6.
Check that propeller track is within specified limits.
7.
Check any anti-icing systems for condition, security and satisfactory operation.
Is this still applicable or out of date?

Only time I have had any issues with my prop or CSU is just after I have been forced to "open". I would prefer to run on condition. I know CAA may not like it, but can I legally do this?

Take the Hatzel sticker of and put one on that says "Georges Prop fix only when broken"

Its this hole crap about using "certified" parts in a NTCA. They are no longer certified so the rules don't apply.
