Hi Tribal Croc,
is it a new installation or has it been working ok until now? If it's just broke, then check the connections as wiskeyfoxtrot suggests, especially the ground. If it's a new installation, then you might need a ballast resistor between the rpm input (grey wire in the engine loom) and the ground. MGL recommends 220 Ohm for their devices. You need to check with Amptronics what they recommend.
Whiskey, I don't think it's a good idea to move the sender box. While I don't have any hands-on experience with Skydat installations, generally the sender box's purpose is to encode the signals, so that there are fewer cables to run to the instruments, less possibility for interference or other signal distortion. Especially your CHT and EGT readings may suffer if you move the box to the front. Keep it as close to the engine as possible.
If vibration is a concern, then try to mount it on the airframe somewhere nearby, ie. bottom of the pylon, but still, keep it as close to the engine as possible.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
V.
