Who's going to the SAAF Musuem Show??

Postby Nkwazi » Fri Sep 11, 2009 7:10 pm

Who's going

Wings and Adventure Air Show - AFB Zwartkop Pretoria, 12 September 2009
Gates open at 07:00, ticket prices are R30.00 for adults and under 16 free.

The airshow program now runs from 09:30 until 18:15, with an average performance of 10 minutes per slot.

The SA Air Force Museum will be hosting the only Air Force Air Show during 2009. It will be held at Zwartkop Airfield alongside Old Johannesburg Road in Valhalla, Pretoria. The theme of this Air Show is ''Wings & Adventure''. The Aircraft of the Air Force Museum, including the "Black Widow" Mirage 111, and other vintage aircraft such as the Vampire and Impala will cover the "Wings" theme.

The Air Force Aerobatic Stars, the "Silver Falcons" as well as Gripen, Hawk, Alo II & III; Puma, Dakota, Harvard 7111 & 7072, C-130, CASA 235, Cessna C208, Oryx, Agusta 109, Rooivalk, Falcon 500, Boeing 737, Albatros, Pitts Specials and aerobatic teams from the public sector will make up the rest.

Media involved: Radio 702, Bushveld, Rippel, RSG, OFM, Jakaranda & Highveld. SABC 2 & 3, Morning Live & MNet. Rekord, Star, Citizen, Beeld, African Pilot, SA Pilot & SA Airnews. Brain Emmenis and Capital Sounds will be providing commentary.

The "Adventure" theme was chosen to encourage the general public to spend more of their recreational time enjoying our beautiful climate. Companies covering the adventure theme, to name a few, are Kawasaki SA, Honda SA, CRD 4x4; Safari Centre; SA 4x4 National Camps, Cadac. Food stalls will be available and lots of entertainment for the children. There will be a beer garden hosted by SAB, Perno and KWV with big screens for the rugby.

The Air Force Museum sustains its role and functions as the custodian of the history and traditions of our Air Force, by holding such fundraising events. Income from such events accrues to the SAAF Museum Building Fund, a registered welfare organisation, the objectives of which are to provide financial support to the Air Force Museum to fund the maintenance of the historic aircraft, buildings and infrastructure in Pretoria, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth.

What an absolutely fantastic airshow. I type this as I sit at Zwartkops while a Gripen shows it's speed. The mirage's were also spectacular. Makes me proud to be a South African aviator - woohoo.

That was probably one of the best airshows I have seen in a long time here in SA. Well done to the museum guys (^^) We should probably thank the private owners of the Mirage F1 and 3....without there contribution we wouldn't have seen these beautiful aircrafts in the sky. It was the first time I saw the Gripen; impressive....but I still enjoy the old aircrafts more vhpy
