windsock vs windspeed

Postby soekiwindni » Sat Jul 04, 2009 8:24 pm

There are different sizes of windsocks available, eg. the 3.6m long sock (apperently the one they use at major airports)........the ones we use at our airstrips are obviously much smaller and would be 90 degree to the ground whereas the bigger one is say 45 degrees in the same wind.
Question : compairing the different sizes, what "rule of thump" wind speeds are indicated when a windsock is 30, 60 and 90 degree to the ground :?:
Thanks

If the sock is anything but limp, drink beer and watch the sports as your mates arrive back.

Or tie a knot in the end of the windsock, stick a brick in it and THEN watch your mates having fun vhpy
