Hi Guys,

Don't want to highjack the post but I think someone else may want to know the same thing:

How do you go about getting a type rating on a single seater? I have often wondered and I guess now is a good time to find out.

I can't understand the whole type rating/differences training thing in SA anyway. C152 vs C150 - Piper28 140/160 I could go on!

Is there a flying example in the Centurion area that I can have a look at up close?

Thanks

When you get type rating for a single seater the requirement is that you need to be a licensed pilot with some hours on in the first place. An instructor will then check you out on a dual airplane and see if your flying is up to scratch. Then he will talk you throught the single seat airplane - discuss all the needed knowledge you should know - flying characteristics, speeds etc. etc - what to expect form it and so on. Then you'll get in and he'll be on a handheld radio on the side of the field and you will fly it on your own. Once airborne you will investigate the envelope for yourself - see what she stalls and flies like and then do a couple of circuits with instructor watching. Once he is happy you get signed out. No rocket science.
Nuts about Cheetahs. Petit is the place.

Dankie Stephan,

Basically Stephan is correct.

I will be doing some time in a Cubby as it is about the closest to the Sunbird and the VP, then i will be chatting the to test pilot intimately about the handeling of the Aircraft's and then ............ (-)

now just to find a school that flies a cubby close to where i live.

OK

I have put my VP on the Shelf for now - The main reson is i have got my hands on a Sunbird (Pic Attatched - Not a nice one but it will be updated Soon).

The Idea is to ge the Sunbird Flying as she was flying before it had an Engine out and some damage.
I can use the Sunbird to do the 3Axis conversion and then keep my License current with her while i finish the VP. ($$) ($$)

Yes Dish I am working hard ## at making the challange ## I will post pics as I progress with some changes and the Fixing progress.

Looking good Gavin...am volunteering to be your first victim (I mean non-paying passenger) when she is ready...

If your wife reads this site and finds out about the kitchen sink you will have your "privileges" removed for some substantial period of time.
