Instrument flying or not. I have had my instrument rating since 1978 I have many hours actual IF we in the Cape use the IF rating all the time. I fly this in Cessna Citation, Baron C210 and the PC12. Instrument flying is serious business.
Once you are in the clag the adrenaline starts rushing because the entry into the cloud was unplanned and the plan to get out of the cloud safely onto the ground is also missing( no approach plates, lack of procedures etc etc) the next step is panic and after that front page news. If you have a MGL or for that reason any other gyro reference system start the process of doing a 180 back turn as soon as possible, you will be much better off . I own a Baron B55 with autopilot and all the bells and whistles and I use all this just as a cloud break machine . In the Cape with all the mountains the performance is to little to be a real IF machine. My Bosvark (Bushbaby Safari) is getting a MGL Odyssey with all the fancy gyro's so that I can make a safe 180 backtrack. Enjoy the recreational flying do not change fun into a nightmare.
Cheers Oupa-G
