What got you interrested in microlighting?

This is a very true statement...a lot of sudents doing their MPL's end up buyng planes of the same brand or very similar to what they were trained on or exposed to......That's why in some cases, the manufacturers pass Instructors a commission on trikes sold by them, which of course also aids this process.....

I think in more recent times, the price competition is too steep and therefore very little commission thrown around.....

Started of in the airforce as a aeronautical engineer and then worked at Atlas on the Rooivalk design team. Always wanted to fly and got my PPL
but to only be able to afford 1 - 2 hours flying per month wasn't enough Was introduced to microlighting by a com. pilot friend of mine flying trikes. Fell in love with this form of REAL flying and can't get enough. Starting to grow feathers between my toes. Still fly blikkies and 3 axis but prefer the real thing for real pilots (trikes)

The pure cost of it. I started on gliders, got frustrated moved on to microlight, but fly I had to fly!

Always been plane crazy, can trace that to a picture of a spitfire placed over my cot when I was a baby And spent my formative years under a Tornado low level training area:D Still think a spitfire is the most beautiful thing ever. Built masses of static models, gliders and got dragged down from the roof a couple of times with a plank strapped to my back... fear of heights preventing an actual test flight (or should I say fear of the ground... because that is what actually hurts you). As 18th birthday present got an introductory flight in a microlight (MAC CDL I think). I was mind blown!!! Definitely the closest you can get to being a bird, finally 12 years later in a position to fullfill the dream :D

Microlights are definitely the answer for the recreational flyer... who wants to fly at night or in bad weather anyway. I have a friend who is doing his PPL and after showing him some of the 3 axis bliks that fall under ZU reg he is kicking himself... One thing that is a barrier to people is the percieved danger of the sport. I think alot needs to be done to emphasize that microlights are not a cheap and nasty way to get airborne.
