Coyote's makeover

Postby Coyote » Wed Jan 14, 2009 2:16 pm

My baby is finally finished and flying ….. What an aerie. She had a lot of work done:

Wings painted
Totally new interior including panel and seats
Conversion from tailie to trike undercarriage
Wings re- rigged
Washout reset (they were all very out)
BRS installed
New tank installed (old one was leaking)
All wiring redone
New windscreen in skylight
new intercom with IPOD jack
The list goes on and on …………

I have put on 6 hours in her now and she is a delight to fly but busy on the rudders. Like many VLA’s she requires a lot of active rudder input. Not unreasonably so but she is not like a Cessna where you can put your feet on the floor and read a book. Like any mistress – she demands constant attention but if you do she will deliver the ride of a lifetime. I am very happy with the result and enjoy every minute of flying her thoroughly……

Here are some before and after pics …..

Looks like krugersdorp am I right.

Nice job done, I have also in the past flown one of those and also found that one was busy on the rudder maybe the ruddere area is to small ????

Enjoy.

Yes it is Krugersdorp - the tail area is fine (I think) its just that it is a VLA and requires attention to the rudders. I dont think that its any different than the other small aeries on the market. The 912 packs alot of punch so you need to apply lots of rudder to counter talk. I trim her out and she flies staight hands off. Its in the turns that one needs to co-ordinate the rudder and stick.

No I had the seats done myself through a contact - its the same guys that do the Jeeps and Mercs interiors. They can do the logo stitching also. If you need the details give me a shout 083 562 9594. Their work was very proffesional.

They panel Kev did - his work is very good as he is an absolute perfectionist. His new spray booth is awesome for a prof finish. He is slow at times but when you see the end result it is all worth it. I also found that he has amazing knowledge about aerodynamics - I will go as far as to say that my aerie is flying better than it ever did due to correct rigging and CG.

Honestly Morph - I dont know because I never flew it as a tailie. I was too chicken and felt that I had nothing to prove. Maybe some time in the future I will revert back to a tailwheel but for now Im just getting used to using a rudder sooooo much.
