Not being funny Agent, but you aren't going to get too much for that.
Just tried to get a mate of mine a 400D or 450D - best price I could get for her was R6999 with IS lens.

From my VERY limited knowledge you will not get anywhere near a 30D for R5K. Maybe a 350D with some toys if you lucky, or a new 400 package. The 30D is closer to the R10K mark for the body alone, then have to add lenses, mem cards, bag, tripod etc etc...

Good luck.

Keep an eye on this site, second hand camera's and lens pop up here daily.
Purchased my little 350d through ODP and got value for money.
Outdoorphoto shop is in Pretoria.

If you hang on till January/Feb, you will see a lot more camera's and lens popping up for sale, for reasons i'm sure you will understand.
The guy i purchased my camera from was prepared to take the camera to the ODP shop for a professional opinion as i'm 400km from Pretoria but that said, i suggest you do some homework when going the s/handed route !

One piece of advice if i may, spend your hard earned money on good lens (glass) first time round, the camera body is less important and can be "upgraded" later if need be .

Agrred (again). Also don't overspend. Get Camera and lens it comes with and try it out. Some like it some don't. I almost spent R14'000 (was told by all who know it was a moerse bargain and 50% of retail) on a loooong lens that todate I would not have been able to use.

Like aeries. match mission and Budget and you be happy.

I also nearly got taken with the same senerio, nice body (camera) and a aftermarket lens (non Canon).
Luckly i studied the OPD forum and came across an posting by the owner of the said equipment. He said he used the lens twice and threw it into his cupboard as it was to slow etc for his use.
If i may suggest (again), go to the OPD forum and you will find most of the answers to your questions and these opinions are from people who are avid photographers, amateur and pro ,not sales talk.

Thanks for all the advise but truly I cannot realy tell what I have to spend as that will be your price.
Looks like I have been offered a 30 D body only so will wait for final answer tomorrow.
And hope the price also sounds right.
Have spoken to Rudix then we shop for 2 lenses to start off with.
