Addis 25L Fuel containers?
I bought two of the red 25l Addis jerry cans a few months ago but the caps started cracking not long after I started using them. I phoned Addis and they sent replacement caps and I was informed that they had a product issue as these were imported from China or somewhere. The new yellow replacement caps are stronger but the inside rubber started melting as soon as it cam into contact with petrol. Seems like they are not made for petrol. Anybody had the same problems yet? I have 10 new caps but looks like I will be using 1 a week.

Yes. I bought one two months ago and the top of the filler cap broke off. When I went to fill at the service station I found it broken no knocks or other apparent cause. Do you have Addis' phone number?

I've got the same problem. It is a damn difficult job getting fuel containers that dont leak and make your car smell of petrol. I started out with the white containers (school insisted so they could check that fuel had been mixed with oil) - They cracked after 2 years. Bought the addis cans - both caps cracked. The steel jerry cans does seem a better buy but they only take 20 liters which makes pre-mixing inconvenient. Oil injection is looking more and more attractive.....

Hi,
One word of advice. Always try to use see through containers. You can then see sediment or any bits that gather at the bottom of the container.
Cheers,

My dad has a 25L addias container that he uses for fuel for our boat. We have had said container for 3 years plus and have never experianced this!
We also use unleaded!
Maybe a manufacturing fault in the batch you bought??

Tip - never let the pump attendant close your Addis can.
I bought two, two and a half years ago, and still use both of them with the original caps. Do not overtighten the caps, then it seems to last longer. The one's seal has broken but the caps are still intact.

Re: Addis 25L Fuel containers?
I bought the steel jerry's as my hanagr is moer hot and the plastic ones blow up (not with a bang just get bigger). Only hold 20l, slightly more expensive, but they work well and don't break or leak. That said I used a 25l plastic one for the cubby and the lid was broken in month... Seems over tightening (to prevent leak in car) is a problem. I have been told if you put plastic over and then just finger tighten it also does the trick and the lid lasts much longer.....
PS
We get what looks like old 25l fruit juice white ones here from Midas for R50 and they work very well...

Re: Addis 25L Fuel containers?
Try containers made by Mega Plastics, not too sure if they are still around??
I have one which has seen regular use now for a long time (15 years)
Its still perfect and the cap has never given a problem, the secret as RV4ker says is not to over tighten

Not cracked yet - but does not seal properly - not even when you put the funnel magafda through the lid.

Re: Addis 25L Fuel containers?
Yup one of my pet hates. I also bought about 5 ot those addis containers for water on 4x4 trips. First time I used one it started pissing water before I got to PTA and the lid cracked in 10 minutes. Cost me buying other containers en-route and then sit with empty containers for a twoo week trip - if they weren't so expensive I would have thrown them away. SO I sit with 5 of those unusable. Thanks for those contact details - sure to give them a shout. All I wanted was a solid cap instead of the one that can take the spout.
As for fuel for the plane - I use one of those 25l white containers - and then we use a rotary hand pump to decant it to the airplane. Something like this - available at most Mica or midas spares shops. http://www.handpump.cn/english/Hand%20Rotary%20Pump.htm
