Yes, and that is why the Jabiru is such a great deal, for the price of a Rattax rebuild you can buy a new 2000 hour TBO engine WITHOUT a gearbox (no gearbox needed as it is direct drive).Stephan van Tonder wrote:yeah recommended TBO on the engine is 1500 hours but the gearbox doesn't make it there. Work on a gearbox rebuild around 400 hours. +- R15k for that. Engine rebuild is around R100k currently.
Yip, I was trying to buy a second hand Jab motor, so I asked the factory what the absolute worst case overhaul cost could be. They said that they had not seen anything much over R28k, but in theory it could be as much as R35k. Compare that to a MINIMUM overhaul cost of R69k for a Rotax.Rudix wrote:Yes, and that is why the Jabiru is such a great deal, for the price of a Rattax rebuild you can buy a new 2000 hour TBO engine WITHOUT a gearbox (no gearbox needed as it is direct drive).Stephan van Tonder wrote:yeah recommended TBO on the engine is 1500 hours but the gearbox doesn't make it there. I know of quite a few Jabirus (Local school) that has made the 2000h TBO without major problems. Oh, and when you do get to the rebuild stage it only costs around R17K![]()
No, it is "set" in the manual as well..... You have the same chart as the 2 strokes that shows what should be done when, and it includes overhaul.Trikenut wrote:Hi Guys,
So if I understand correctly, there is no set TBO on a Rotax 4 stroke, only a reccomended TBO?![]()
Unlike a Rotax 2 Stroke, which is a set 600 hours. Or is it 300 hours??![]()
They are all only recommended TBO, even the old Continentals and Lycomings.Trikenut wrote:...only a reccomended TBO?
Yes, that's true, it is only mandatory here in SAjustin.schoeman wrote:They are all only recommended TBO, even the old Continentals and Lycomings.Trikenut wrote:...only a reccomended TBO?
In their infinite wisdom, South Africa's CAA have decided that recommended TBOs are mandatory.
