Slabfish

The ICA6/24 series is designed for a input of 11 volts DC, the AC charger supplied with them is 12 volts. It will charge but not transmit if the voltage input goes over 11,4 volts. So thats your answer. We make the required adaptor you require and have supplied hundreds to this forum. (As well as Icom dealers throughout the continent) It also includes very well tested line choke. Alternatively you could make yourself. They draw about 1,6 amps when transmitting so are very power hungry compared to others. I can email you the drawing if you send me a pm.

Hi Zulu1, I have an Icom A23, will the same external power lead you make fit this radio and if so how much and how do I get one from you?
Whilst talking electrics I am fitting an SC103 strobe and they recommend fitting a diode, supplied, on the electric starter solinoid power lead. Confirm they mean the +ve wire that activates the solinoid from your starter button?

Hiya Slabfish, No pm received ?? All ex stock in any event...

MRP, the same device will work well and dont try to connect the ICA23 direct as they are very voltage sensitive. We set them to 12volts which is just about OK on the regulator as they draw about 1,1 amps. seen many popped and unrepairable for overvoltage spikes.. Be careful and try to run off the battery in the meantime.

We normally post them. Try to send a PM with details.

Diode for the strobe, I am not quite sure but the reason I would imagine is to prevent the strobe when it discharges sending a back EMF in to the network ?? If it is fired with a SCR it shouldnt do it but may be its a "just in case scenario". If you place a standard diode in series though you will lose about 0,5 volts. Do they supply them or do you have to source ??
Strobes are great signal generators, they really play havoc with radios, we have developed a LED version using the later generation of 30 degree angle LEDS, ready early next year and wont switch off, the light array will rotate switching to the next stack of LEDS (5 stacks) and obviously be really simple to install..no fancy boxes or drivers...will look like a carnival light in usage. Maybe use them on fork lifts as well. Main reason is to eliminate the rf created by strobes.

Let me know by PM
cheers Paul

Eeesh Zulu thanks for the inof as for sure I would have messed up my radio, 10points for the technical forum, I have an office in JBG where you could sent the power lead to. How much is it and will get the funds to the office for payment. Re the strobe they have supplied the diode with the strobe and had also advized that the wires at the strobe are twisted together to eliminate rf interferance. Look forward to seeing your new strobes keep us posted on progress with them.
Havent figured out how to insert some simlies etc as still learning my way round all these goodies.
