What is the significance of a >50rpm drop?

Nothing, it's fine. It should not exceed 300rpm

More than 300 rpm means it's wêkking too good :shock:
Airspeed, altitude, or brains....you always need at least two

Yes, I am not sure where I got the 50rpm drop ! Maybe was the figure I learnt on C150? Anyway, normally I just do the check by ear.

Ok, so what if it drops more than 300?

then your ignition circuit is starting to fail. Could be either the stator coils or the Ignition black boxes
