I am planning a scooter trip from George to Baviaanskloof fly-in in September to join my friends there. Went there as PAX on ZU-BKW last year and took some nice photos. I cannot afford to take a C152 this year. So I decided to do a slow trip by scooter. Should be lekker to stop and enjoy the kloof.
Anyone interested?

Re: Scooter to Baviaanskloof fly-in
More details below, from Morne Jonker.
Hopefully will have an Eastern Cape Gaggle there again!

Anyway, the Baviaanskloof weekend we are planning for the 12,13, and 14th September.
About 9 planes and 25 people booked so far,of course you Eastern Cape bunch are most welcome, as you always support this event so well.
The catering will be done by Pine at the Rooikloof home everyday and there will be a bar.The Oudtshoorn Aeroclub is going to to the organizing.
R225-00 for all the meals the weekend per person.Camping is R50-00/person per day and the beds are R180-00/p/p day, so says Magriet.

Still Flying
Re: Scooter to Baviaanskloof fly-in
If I can fly somewhere - rule#1 is - FLY there.
However as with all rules - they should be broken or at least have exceptions
I think I have flown to Baviaans once and trucked in there 3 times
or as Larry would say - went by go-kart . It is one of THE most pleasant drives ever and should be done at least once.

Re: Scooter to Baviaanskloof fly-in
Sounds interesting, but what do you call a scooter (to qualify that a friend of mine refers to his Hyabusa as his scooter)?
Must get airborne again

Re: Scooter to Baviaanskloof fly-in
I could drive to Baviaanskloof, but I have done it many times. I flew there as Pax with Petrus last year and enjoyed it a lot. I normally fly with FTC's C150 and C152, but their insurance does not allow for landing on unregistered strips.
I thought I should try something else.
My idea is to take a slow drive with a entry level Vuka 110cc city scooter to Sandvlakte. Gravel roads most of the time.
Route from George via the old Montagu pass, Perdepoort, along the Kamanasie river to Uniondale then Zaaimansdal and Baviaanskloof. Total distance just over 250km, 20 of it tarred road. Plan to do it in 8 hours. Want to take photos and enjoy the scene. WEG (Albertus van Wyk) did an article about the Kamanasie route the other day.
Think about it and join me or should I get some young girls to come along?
