Training on your own Trike

Sometime I sit and sometime I wonder , just been thinking is it an option to train on your own trike - I know from past experience that most schools were anti..... , but with the replacement price of engines/ planes this may be an option , - I know that there may be a paper trail , but rather shift paper than Bucks - ???

It will save you some money and give you good experience on your own plane.

I can not give any advice yet on how to do it. But this is my plan aswell. Almost finished my dual hours on the school and instructors trike, and then planning to do the solo hours on my own. Otherwise the trike is just going to stand there for 5 months easy.

I did my first 8 hours on a school trike and the balance on my own. My instructor was more than accommodating on this and his school still allows it to this day. I saved myself a fair whack of money so I say yes if you have your own plane then train on it.
Maybe circumstances have changed but I did mine 15 years ago and it was worthwhile. Hell they had not even introduced the first Aquilla then!!

It is allowed - just requires a fax to CAA to have aircraft put on the school licence. No cost for doing that either.

Aircraft does not need to be on the school's licence. ATF must just state: owner training. Busy training with my own aircraft.

Just my opinion:

Schools would rather have students train on the school's aircraft, because it is a easy way for them to finance their own aerie!!

I had no problem when registering my Bantam and we told them that I was going to use the a/c for owner training and it was done through a school.

I say rather get used to your own a/c if you have one.

Some schools also have an additional fee for when using your own aerie - like a "corkage fee". If they invested heavily in craft, it's probably understandable.
