I am looking a5t buying a secondhand plane with the above engine in it.
There is a mod with high compression pistons from the states ( not the free states)
And was wondering who has done that mod.
Only $800.00 for the mod and then from 80 hp up to 95 hp.

Re: Upgrading the 912 ULS
Aviation engines not recommend it (obviously), but Demon had it done to FLY and I know a couple others who have been happy with it...

Re: Upgrading the 912 ULS

They told me it negates the warranty and did not even want to talk about it?????
FLY had over 1000hrs on it and Demon said he was happy and had, had no SH!T. Don;t know when he had it done though? I always thought it was a good (cheap) option. R8K for extra 15hp.

Re: Upgrading the 912 ULS
It's for the UL(80hp) not ULS(100hp)
I understand the upgrade runs a little hotter than normal, plus it uses a bit more oil. Both I could live with.
There was a Bushbaby here in CT that had over 1000hours on it (Junkie
)
KFA's current BB has the conversion, not sure of the hours.
Definately on my list, especialy if I move up to the big smoke

The performance of the conversion is also not on par with the 912ULS 100hp - been told.

Re: Upgrading the 912 ULS
Graham
I had two.
It will use a bit of oil: about 100cc every 3 hours.
It is reliable, BUT compression is higher with these pistons and thus u can only use 95 oct
whereas the 912 will be happy with 93 octane. This IS important as 95 is not as freesly available.
I doubt if the extra 15 horses is worth the expense.
I currently own a JK-05 with the 912Xtra and a fellow aviator who has the same type, flies with the
912. My performance is only slightly better on take-off and cruise is the same in both aircraft.
Kind regards

Re: Upgrading the 912 ULS
Thanks gyus , what I will now do is test fly the a/c as I know the performance of the 100 hp engine on the same a/c and report back.

Re: Upgrading the 912 ULS
My BB is approaching 300hr's with conversion. No probl. Good performance and no heat or oil troubles. Am very happy
