You are onto something here like mind over matter..

I gave up about 18 years ago and found that I needed to give my mouth something else to do. Stick your pen or pencil in your mouth instead.

Stimorol chewing gum also helped, it tasted really crap to have a smoke after chewing one.

I wish you guys luck with kicking the habit - you won't be sorry.

If I remember correctly it was Oscar Wilde who said "Giving up smoking is easy. I have done it thousands of times".

Hi Wart, if you and anyone else really want to stop smoking check out the Non Aviation Items thread. Beter and cheaper than drugs or chemical laced gum.

Go Delta VV,

Hang in there if you can last 3 days then you can last 3 weeks and also 30 years.

Hang in there it is worth the effort.

Think of it as the battle is half won and not half started.

Be positive ("Ek is die Beste" say this to your self several times a day!) and you will overcome.

Know what you are going through.

Sterkte,

A quick report back on my progress...

Officially stopped as of 22 January 2008; this has been quite difficult with the time spent waiting in airports and the few drinking sessions whilst travelling but I am pleased to report that in the last week I have only had 3 ciggies - 2 last Tuesday night and 1 on Friday night; both of these time coincided with a beer in one hand and a ciggie in the other. I think that I am doing really well?

Last smoke, 2 weeks ago Sunday. :)

Explain then: heartburn and now sudden throat infection which I would quickly cure with a packet of Camels?

Have to say: given me more time per session on the squash court (for my brats to wipe me)

So?

How many of the quiters have managed to quit?

I smoked my last one last night - Feel fine, I want to ram an auditfile down every fellow-workers throat and watch them suffocate slowly, but other than that I am cool 8)

Last year i stopped for 8 months. Went camping in Mossle Bay for December holidays. Out comes the braai, the brannas, the mix, the meat....sea in front of me. Neighbour sits with HIS dop. Yes you guessed right, he was pulling that cigarette. I watch him. I burn the meat. I look at my dop. See the picture is NOT coloured in right. I look at my neighbour. I dribble. I bum a cigarette. I smoke. I STILL F@*CKIN smoke!
